To put my finger on it.
Why does flipping someone off symbolize the phrase "fuck you?"
Are you ready to nerd it up?
"Ok, the reason for the gesture of the middle finger salute actually stems from ye olden days. If you're not familiar with it, the full middle finger salute is to cross your left arm over the crook of your right and forcefully lift your middle finger. This stance is a mimic of one raising their sword and shield to an enemy. Now seeing as though brandishing your sword to someone was a sure sign that you intended something very aggressive. Though many years and interpretations by many cultures we've inherited a single finger, as opposed to a full sword.
As for it's relation to "fuck you." well, I think Pavlov and his dogs would have something say about it. After all, that's usually what you say when you make the gesture. I suppose you could also see the finger as a fallacy.
Man does my kung-fu rock.
