Why People Have Children (an explanation, not an excuse)

This question has always plagued me, why do people have children? They are quite revolting, they smell and they have dirty hands. Furthermore when people become parents they loose what dignity they had, reducing themselves to factories to spread the human virus. The thing that surprises me most is that it's not just the stupid ones that breed, although they do it the most. There are even people of average intelligence that shit out a series of children. All the while leaving me to wonder, why? Why have a child? Why bring even more life and despair into this world? Can't you find anything else to do with your time? Aren't you better than this?

and like that, the answer.

Even those who are spawning forth the most horrible social abominations and they'll give you the same answer. In one way or another they'll blurt out that the children are the future. The horror of it all is that they are technically right. You see, when parents have children they look down on this blank slate of human waste and think "he'll be an astronaut," or "she'll cure cancer." the parents "dedicate" their lives to raising this child because they feel that they will save the future, and thus palliative their lives.

this doesn't happen.

mom and dad believe this "savior of humanity" bit so thoroughly that they feel that their go-no-where lives have meaning and purpose, because their children will be great, because they had them. But as baby grow to be an adult he is working minimum wage, he's going to community college, he's not going anywhere. This "savior" is floundering, eighteen becomes twenty, twenty become thirty, and thirty becomes a very slippery slope. He has failed, and as he comes to grips with his failure he realizes there is one chance.

he can pass the buck.

the fledgling adult has found a loop hole. He knows his life is meaningless, he has done nothing spectacular with the time he's been given. His life has had no meaning, but he can give it one. "the children are the future" he can change the course of his life. All he has to do is change from being the savior to raising the savior, and with that the cycle starts again.

the proof is out in the world we live in, as a single person trying to make it in the world you are a disappointment to those who raised you because you are not achieving the greatness you were intended for. But once you become a parent you are viewed as someone sacrificing your own future for this new life. No one ever considers the fact that the future being sacrificed was a very bleak one.

why do people have children? It alleviates the disappointment you feel in your self by passing it on to your child.

Testing

I suppose when it comes to feelings you cannot be told you're wrong, they're like opinions you have no say in. This is how I feel...

The setting would be that of the last day of school, final exams and such. I'm sitting alone in a room, alone with a proctor. The proctor asks one question, "is your relationship based on love or sex?" I know the answer, I reply "love," with the firmest of convictions. "prove it." the proctor demands. I have proved my self over the past several months, unwavering loyalty and devoted love. But this test seems to enjoy cruel irony. "So you love her more than you love sex with her?" the proctor asks rhetorically, "then you won't mind giving up sex, forever."

It is my loyalty that gives me focus, and it is my love for her that binds us together.

This is how I feel.

In times of loss, it is remembering the good times that will give you strength. Cherish those memories and the ones who have left will never be lost.

I wrote this in a sympathy card for a girl I work with, it was the best I could do, that and the 5 bucks for flowers.
