Bowl'n Again
I bowled tonight. it's been over a month since the last time i bowled and it felt good. with the change of schedual i couldn't join the leauge, but with this impromptu vacation i had the chance to bowl tonight, and i have to say, it was fun.
i bowled a 159 average, not too shabby for being out of the game for so long.
one thing that didn't go to well was a guy that joined my Dads team in my place got a bit too drunk (hammered), and got into a thing with his friend that he brought. (a cute little chicky name Patty). the long and the short is that when he left he took her keys and threw them into another parking lot.
i stayed behind and helped her look for them with the security guys, we (they) found them, but the drunk guy took her truck key so she was able to get into the truck but wasn't able to drive. (what a dick, right?) so i talked her into letting me take her home after searching for her keys.
On A Positive Note: while we drove we talked and it turns out we have a lot in common, both rainy day weather people, enjoy the same movies, and so on. it was nice to connect with some, if only for a little bit.
186! omfg, i can't frigg'n believe it. four strikes in a row, five strikes in a game.
my average right now is about 156 or so, but this game was awesome. and while that was my best game of the day, i had rocked the other two games too! i didn't print out those scores because they weren't as awesome as this one. though, i did beat my dad in the other game too, hehehe
but still, 186!
if you're not wearing socks, it's because they were just rocked off!
see, 147 is decent if you're playing in a situation where the score doesn't matter and everyone is there to have a good time, but not in my family.
in my family it's always a competition, you have to prove your self. when it comes to bowling it's not even a matter of how good you do, it's a matter of who you're better than; and right now I'm the worst. (my brother bowled 167, my mom bowled a one 156 or something)
now, keep in mind that both my mom and i are bowling injured (we're still sore from softball), but even on a good day i can't break 150.
the thing about this is that I'm actually quite ashamed of my score. i mean, here i am with my own ball (btw, can i still call it Ichabod seeing as though it was replaced with an identical ball), my own shoes, and a shoe brush, yet i have such a pathetic score. I'm embarrassed to go bowling with my friends
it sucks, to say the least.
now, I'm not expecting to be the best. with the amount of bowling i do, it would be silly to think such things. but i need to break 160.
but i did come close at one point, i got two strikes in a row, but my third try i left one pin standing keeping me from a Turkey. (FYI, a turkey is when you get three strikes in a row)
one thing that i do know is this, i need to get better one way or another. my dad has offered to coach me, but i can't have him making fun of me or laughing at me (which he does) because not only will i not learn, but I'll get even more frustrated.
I'm not trying to be the best, I just want to give them a good run for their money.
well, he's not doing so good (yes, I'm aware he's a skull, but the undead can get sick too)
the first time i bowled was cool, he rolled, he crashed, he did what had to be done. but after i bowled i noticed something next to the finger hole... a tiny little crack. i showed it to the guy at the pro shop who drilled the ball. he said "oh, little cracks happen, it's nothing."
The second time i bowled the crack became more pronounced, the shop was closed, and i remember what the guy said. so i ignored it again.
today i decided to sneak into the alley and bowl a few games before i got home.with three frames left of my second game i decided to check the crack... it was now damn near two inches spanning nearly from the index to the thumb.
So what happens now? well, i left Ichabod with the guys at the Pro-shop to which they told me three things that they're going to do. 1. they'll contact the vendor and replace the ball, I'll get it replaced and drilled for free. 2. the vendor won't take it back, i bowl with it till it shatters and they'll give me a discount on a new ball 3. they'll tell me to go fuck my self
OMG, i fucking love this thing, it's awesome. and it looks so cool when it rolls down the lane too. my brother tried bowling with it at all he could say was "as it spun down there, every time it looked at me it kept saying "die, die, die."
I named him: Ichabod
While he does have his own name i had them engrave my name on him, it only seemed right.
Families often have past times that they bond over.
For some it's Baseball For Red necks it's Nascar For Canadians it's Hockey. For the Irish it's drinking
For my family, it's bowling! (well, we also do a lot of drinking, but try and bowl while we do it)
In my family everyone eventually gets their own bowling ball. My Mom and Dad bought theirs when i was a kid, they had joined a league consisting of the other parents in the neighbor hood.
My mom had a baby blue ball with her name engraved on it, it was cute and friendly. my Dad had a ball that was black as obsidian, it was so dark that your eyes just slid off it.
The thing is, my parents are good, damn good. Back in the day my Dad nearly broke 300, my mom, well, as goofy as she is rarely can be beat.
A few years back my brother perfected his bowling technique
(it's like this, but with more style)
Last Christmas my brother got his own bowling ball, it has a swirl of dark colors and a bowling ball bag consumed with flames.
When it comes to my bowling style i have a bit of a hindrance, well two of them 1) because i don't have my own ball, ever time i bowl i have to use a different "alley" ball 2) the only time i can bowl well is when I'm drunk (i have no idea, it just works that way)
So, while the "drunken bowling" skills can be attained with proper applications of copious amounts of beer, the ball is another issue. I figure I'll ask the 'rents for one for my birthday which will make them happy to know that i will be that much closer to not sucking at bowling (Last time we bowled i was nearly beaten by a six year old using bumpers)
lately I've been thinking of what kind of bowling ball should i get. my first instinct was to go with something jet black. But as hella says "not all balls look the same, sometimes they have different colors." while the context of that conversation may have been of things non-bowling in nature, i realized that if I'm going to get a ball, it's gotta be very "exile."
With that I've decided to take some insperado from one of my favorite movies: Mystery Men
That's right, the skull ball!
right now, i have my choices narrowed down to two styles:
Naturally, i would insist on getting "exile" engraved on the ball.
feel free to leave a comment on which of these magnificent balls i should play with (after all, i can't go walking around with two big ass balls, now can i?)
